Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona Hosts Successful Annual Day at the Capitol Event
PHOENIX, AZ – The Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona (WFSA) proudly convened its dedicated staff and community partners for the highly anticipated annual Day at the Capitol event, held at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix, Arizona, on Thursday, February 29th, 2024. The event showcased WFSA’s commitment to advancing key policy priorities through engaging legislator meetings that addressed pressing issues such as the Gender Pay Gap in Arizona, the proposed HB 2262 Salary History Ban, and critical affordable childcare initiatives, including the Higher Education Childcare Project Partnership (HECCP).
During the event, WFSA presented the Self-Sufficiency Standard for Arizona to Arizona State Representative, Nancy Gutierrez. This comprehensive standard offers a more realistic alternative to the Official Poverty Measure and provides a detailed county-by-county breakdown of the income required for families of 700 different configurations to meet their basic needs in all 15 Arizona counties. Furthermore, it highlights the necessity of public support, such as childcare assistance and KidsCare, in helping families achieve self-sufficiency while meeting their essential needs.
Michael Abramson III, WFSA’s State Advocacy and Policy Manager, expressed gratitude to all participants, stating, “WFSA extends its sincere appreciation to the community partners who joined us to share their resources and missions with our representatives. As we enter a pivotal election year, advocacy and policy work become increasingly crucial in our commitment to gender equity and reproductive access for all Arizonans.” WFSA was joined by esteemed organizations including Phoenix Legal Action Network, Innovation 4 Justice, Dress for Success Phoenix, YWCA Tucson, Arizona Housing Coalition, Unemployed Workers United, Torres Multicultural, Arizona Democracy Resource Center, Opportunity Arizona, Arizona List and Community Investment Corporation.
