Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona Featured at AFP Arizona State Conference  TUCSON, AZ – The Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona (WFSA) is proud to announce its active participation in the upcoming Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Arizona State Conference, scheduled to take place on Friday, July 17-19. This event, hosted by AFP, brings together fundraising professionals from across the state to enhance their skills, share knowledge, and network with peers.  WFSA’s esteemed leadership team, including CEO Katia Jones, Director of Pilot Programs Joanna Marroquin, and Director of Policy and Advocacy Michael Abramson III, will be integral to the conference proceedings. These dynamic leaders are set to share their expertise and insights on fundraising and advocacy for complex social issues, a crucial component of WFSA’s mission to promote equity and opportunity for women and girls in Arizona.  Panel Participation and Presentations: 
  • Katia Jones, CEO of WFSA, will lend her expertise to the “Fundraising for Complex Social Issues” panel, led by Richard Tollefson, President of The Phoenix Philanthropy Group. With a wealth of experience in navigating the intricate landscape of social change, Jones will provide valuable perspectives on effective fundraising strategies that address multi-faceted societal challenges.  
  • Joanna Marroquin, Director of Pilot Programs, and Michael Abramson III, Director of Policy and Advocacy, will present findings from two significant research projects funded and distributed by WFSA: 
  • The Benefits Cliff: This research highlights the challenges faced by individuals who lose public assistance benefits as their income increases, creating a barrier to self-sufficiency. Marroquin and Abramson will discuss the implications of this phenomenon and strategies for fundraisers to support affected communities effectively. 
  • The Self-Sufficiency Standard: This study provides a comprehensive measure of the income needed for families to meet basic needs without public or private assistance. The presentation will cover how this standard can inform fundraising strategies and aid grant application processes by providing clear, data-driven insights into community needs.
